Fayette County Court to Decide Memorial Building Contract

The Fayette County Court will decide the contract for the Sailors Memorial Building after low bidder Oak Hill’s $273,900 base bid plus $11,150 alternates totals $285,050. Other bids include Southeastern Construction $304,800 and another firm $311,677, with plumbing and electrical bids adding $36,665 to total costs. If awarded to Oak Hill, the building costs would be $321,715. memorial board members present included Mahan, Vaivler, Janutolo, Gaines, Jennings, Bailey, and Perdue.

Mullens residents note Mr and Mrs Ralph Mays will return Tuesday from Cincinnati after a two day trip. Hiram S Atkins 64 an electrician at the Virginian Railway Mullens shops is critically ill at University Hospital Charlottesville since February 14. His son Eugene Atkins and wife from West Mullens with other relatives have stayed in Charlottesville. The Rev Jarrett T Chandler Mullens First Baptist Church will speak at a Williamson Men’s Council dinner tonight with Ray Toler, deacons chairman, in attendance.

Mrs Briguglio Dies in Hospital After Long Illness

Angela Briguglio age 56 of 407 City Avenue died at 10 p m Tuesday in a local hospital after an extended illness Born in Flunedechsa Italy April 12 1893 she was the daughter of Anthony Cascio and Nancy Cialita Cascio She came to the United States in 191? and lived in Raleigh County since Survived by her husband Lales Briguglio of Beckley two sons Joe and Anthony both of Beckley three daughters Mrs Nellie Parisi Oneonta N Y Nancy and Josephine Briguglio Beckley four brothers Phillip Cascio Buenos Aires Argentina Carmelo Cascio Agallon Cascio Dominick Cascio all of Italy two sisters Mrs Nancy Gugliotta and Josephine Cascio both of Italy The body will remain at the Callee Funeral Home pending completion of funeral arrangements.

Mahone Rites Set Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. Corba Mahone 70 are set for Thursday at 1 p.m. from Delilah Methodist Church in Hatcher. The Rev Orville Belcher will officiate with burial in Cook Cemetery. She is survived by her husband Jackson Mahone and a brother Bert Cook of Hatcher. The body was moved from Evans Funeral Home to the residence at Hatcher.

Movie Party Honors Two Local Girls Birthday Night

A movie party was given Saturday night for Miss Virginia Stover and Miss Nila Riffe by their parents at 114 Laurel Terrace to celebrate Stover's 17th and Riffe's 18th birthdays. Teens attended a local theatre, then gathered at the Stover home for games and a refreshment course.
