Rainfall in June this year was 1.98 inches, below the long term average, with temperatures rising to a high near 93 degrees in past weeks. Meteorologist Lewis Hayes notes the pattern stems from a persistent high pressure over the East Coast and limited moisture from the Gulf, causing drought effects on crops and pastures across Beckley and surrounding towns.
