Congress House Passes Bill To Hike Parcel Post
The House approved a bill to raise parcel post rates by about 8 cents per parcel and expand size and weight limits to 40 pounds and 100 inches. The measure aims to boost postal revenue by about 103 million dollars yearly and ease competition with Railway Express Agency. An amendment would open post office jobs to unemployed REA or railroad workers affected by the expanded limits. Other actions: Senate passed bills liberalizing suits against the federal government and measures on agency settlements and limitations. Nominations confirmed include Rosel Hyde FCC chair and Henry Stebbins ambassador to Uganda. A five year 5 million fish flour research program was approved and sent to the House.
