Church To Enjoin State Dispensary Near Church
Williamson June 28 The board of stewards of the First Methodist church sent their attorney to Welch to seek an injunction against opening the state liquor store here arguing it is too close to the church. J J Jordan said he would petition Circuit Judge B F Howard and go to Welch immediately. The liquor commission has said the store, which the stewards claim is 168 feet from the church, will open early next week.

Alimony Pursues Even After Death in West Virginia

Alderman vows punishment after girl testifies of chained children
In Uniontown a 13 year old girl, Stella, testified detailing how she and her siblings were chained and locked in a basement cage. Jacob Mike, 52, faced assault and battery and cruelty charges with bail set at 2000 dollars, plus fines for firearm act violations. The hearing drew the alderman’s strongest rebuke in 25 years. State troopers freed Stella from the wooden basement cage at the Mike residence in Ralph near Uniontown.

Funeral services were held in Princeton for Albert Mooney a 63 year old Virginian railroad electrician killed in Elmore when struck by a yard engine as he crossed the yards around seven. Mooney's skull was crushed and several bones broken as the engine moved in reverse. He was reportedly looking after electric motors in a pumping station and is survived by his wife and seven children Margie Emma Louise Kenneth Maurice Harry Mooney Mrs Anna Bruce of Charleston and Thomas Mooney of Welch.
