Community Recreation Inc. extends the sale of 500 season tickets for the West Mullens pool to 6 pm Saturday. Tickets cost 5 each, with deposits totaling 2000 for 400 sales. Directors still aim to reach 2500, hoping miners receive vacation pay this week to boost purchases.
Fayetteville Town Council amended fee schedules affecting nondrinking licenses, store licenses, tobacco and soft drink sales, and entertainment devices. Fees for motion picture theaters, electric pianos, vending machines, pool halls, and bowling alleys were adjusted, with new annual periods running July 1 to June 30 and potential reductions if the license period is under a year.
Laur el Garden Club schedules its annual family picnic for August 22 at City Park Maple Ave with fencing walkway work and a drinking fountain planned. Club members and hosts Mrs Allen Pack and Mrs James Kuhlke hosted the Thursday meeting. Roger Pritchett outlined the year’s theme A World of Beauty. Slides from blue ribbon state flower shows were narrated by Mrs Onnie Bailey Jr. with refreshments served to 11 members. In a separate item L E Dixon, 80, was moved Saturday to St Luke’s Hospital Bluefield after a paralytic stroke Friday at his daughter’s Highland Avenue home.
The Rev. Ralph Hedrick becomes pastor of First Methodist Church in Sylvester succeeding Rev. W. Cox who moved to Dayton Ohio. Hedrick, a West Virginian from near Alderson, is a Marshall College and Drew University graduate and previously led Sissonville church in Charleston District for three years. Cox and family now reside at 4390 Pearlyn Ave in Dayton.
The Payette County Democratic Executive Committee announces a public dinner meeting to be held Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Auditorium dining room. T. B. Myles, county chairman, says campaign fund methods will be discussed and a state executive committee member from Charleston will attend.

Ten weeks of safety instruction at Mabeni mine of the Winding Gulf Coal Company ended with 100 percent participation across all departments under L A Lewallen federal mine inspector. Certificates of achievement were presented to Bill Miles, foreman, Curtis Hale, superintendent, and Abner England, union president. F W Bowman, general superintendent, reviewed the certificates.
Funeral services for 10 month old Donna McUlty were held at 10 a m at the Wyoming home of her parents Mr and Mrs John McUlty conducted by Rev Charles Cooper Burial followed in Cooper Cemetery on Skin Fork The child was born August 22 and died at 10 15 p m Sunday in a Bluefield hospital
Funeral arrangements for J. R. Collins 86 Clear Creek were incomplete today. Collins died Tuesday at 3 p.m. after a long illness. Survivors include three daughters Belvie Workman Artie Elve Clink of Clear Creek and Hallie Sterns Notomine, two sons Danie and Emmett of Clear Creek. His wife preceded him in death in 1937. The body is at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.
Oak Hill Veterans of Foreign Wars Post sent four members Mrs. George Harris Mrs. Marion Lane and Mr and Mrs Bill McClung to the state encampment in Clarksburg with sessions Wednesday through Saturday A banquet was hosted by the Eastern Star Friday night Main speakers included Senator Chapman Revercomb national junior vice commander Mrs Evelyn Monaco and John W Mahan of Clarksburg
The Rebels' Rec will shut for the month of July per Governing Council decision. The closure follows a seasonal dip in youth center activity and the director's vacation and other employment commitments.
WHITESVILLE RNS Dr J A McGraw Wah named health officer for Boone County Health Department succeeding Dr Hiram Sizemore who moved to Washington DC. McGraw will staff the department at the county courthouse lower floor Madison on Wednesdays and Fridays 1 to 4 PM.
Nelda Jonel Townsend and Walter Joseph Walowae were married at Madison Baptist Church in a ceremony read by Rev Eldon Waltz. The bride, formerly with the Boone County Board of Education, wore a lace gown and veil. the groom is employed by Goodyear in Akron.
Fayetteville police chief Tunney Hunsaker was cleared by Mayor M. G. Hresan and the council after a private session. They ruled he did not neglect duties May 30 when a store owner asked him to investigate a shoplifting incident. The owner, Robert Richie, was present and asked about police authority. the mayor said complaints should be investigated.
A one year old girl from Mount Hope reported missing since June 19 was found Tuesday night at Meadow Bridge. Deputy L W Fox said the child Faye Redden was slightly injured in an automobile accident and was being returned to her parents Mr and Mrs Willie Redden.
Miss Virginia Beckleheimer bride select of Joe Brown was honored Monday evening with a household shower by Mrs. Daisy Foster, Mrs. Wellie Brown and Ms. Margie Durham at the Glen Rogers Community church basement. Bingo provided entertainment with prizes awarded to Thelma Richardson Enfield Walters Trena Brown Gaye Bailey Lily Mae Sizemore Mary Sundin Valentine McNeill and Carol Sheppard. Other attendees included Twila Webb Mabel Brown Gerry York Ruth York and several others.
James Harvin Carter, 68, of Muddy Creek Mountain near Alderson, was killed at the Frazier Company stone crushing plant when a rock weighing more than a ton rolled from a pile and pinned him. Survived by wife Ollie Carter daughter Mrs Wickline and stepdaughter Stella Burns. body at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte pending arrangements.
Police report a weekend burglary at a Wyco store where about 75 cartons of cigarettes watches cigarette lighters and men and women’s clothing were stolen. Entry gained by forcing a side door. Conservator R L Tabscott and Trooper Wiley Hersman investigated.
Miss Angeline Janisky became the bride of Charles Nary Jr on June 6 in Pearisburg. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Janisky of Whipple and the bridegroom is the son of Mr and Mrs Charles Nary of Price Hill. The bride is a Collins High School graduate and the couple will honeymoon in Hollywood California before residing there.

Last rites for George Henry Skaggs 81 of Jodie were to be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jodie Baptist Church by Rev. Harmon Gray with burial in Steele Cemetery near Ansted. Skaggs died Monday evening at Laird Memorial Hospital Montgomery from a stroke and was a former state legislator and Falls District deputy assessor. Survivors include widow Mina Neal, three sons Charles Jackson Ohio Edma Ashtabula Ohio Alba Michigan, three daughters Roberta Campbell Summersville Elsie Preast Crab Orchard Letha Withrow Ansted, three brothers Clarence John Earl, three sisters Clara Woods Edmand Susie Skaggs Ora Holcomb, plus 33 grandchildren 61 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
A representative from the Charleston Social Security Office, Charles E. Teets, will be in Whitesville at the City Building from 10 a m to assist eligible persons with old age benefits and other social security business. No appointment is necessary.
