Stacey Tolliver Breaks His Neck

Spiers Acquitted as Four Plead Guilty in Larceny Case
In a criminal court session Judge Clay S. Crouse led verdicts in the Joe True-Howard Mowell theft case. Mrs Ruby Spiers was found not guilty after True and Mowell testified against her. Four defendants, J W Goolsby Bernard Harless Georgia Bowden and Russell Punch Carter, pled nolo contendere and paid $5 fines. Two cases were disposed of yesterday with Spiers acquitted and David M Dickson claiming immunity as a witness. Remaining defendants Ira Amburgey Steve Farrow Ray Farrow and E F L Mowell were left open but dismissal of the petit jury today signals no further trial. The Raleigh County board of education announced a $26,911 federal appropriation to establish a machine shop as the nucleus of a permanent vocational school. The plan includes preliminary “explanatory” courses for seventh to tenth graders, with transport to the central school for advanced work in electricity auto mechanics woodwork and sheet metal. Adults already receive training funded by federal money, with 105 out of school youths enrolled.
