Amos Elmer Trent of 52 died after a sudden illness while gardening near Baileysville. He was a miner at the Marianna operation of Island Creek Coal Co. Funeral services were held today at 1:00 a.m. at Baileysville Gospel Tabernacle with Rev. Raymond Lusk officiating. burial followed at Shannon Cemetery. Robertson and Fogelsong Funeral Home arranged the services.

Brake Failure Cited In Thurmond Train Collision
A Norfolk and Western style brake failure caused a rear collision between a southbound freight and the eastbound George Washington passenger train near Thurmond West Virginia. Engineer H W Honaker said ore cars at the freight rear caused the crash, injuring six passengers and four crew members. several were hospitalized, with one critically treated. The passenger cars sustained minor damage while the freight was battered, and the passenger train was halted for brake repairs.

Fayette County Court completed a 50 year old jail kitchen upgrade. Contractors built new quarters and staff moved in during the remodel. The old courtyard frame kitchen was removed, meals now prepared in the new facility with the first meal served Wednesday.

Two Youths Injured In Raleigh County Wreck
About 6 p.m. Sunday two Raleigh County youths were injured in a car wreck. Robert Kincaid 17 of Maple Fork suffered minor head and hand injuries and was released from Oak Hill Hospital. Larry Davis 18 of Beckley remained for observation. Driver John Legg of Maple Fork was uninjured. police say Legg failed to make a curve due to excessive speed.

State Meet Counselor Injured In Crash In Fair Condition
Frank Duncan, 67, riding in the front seat, was thrown through the windshield and is listed in the critical list with a broken hip leg and arm plus facial injuries. Mrs Duncan and three children in the back seat had minor cuts and bruises and continued to Cleveland. Smith is in serious condition with two broken hips, his wife in fair condition with injuries undetermined. Both cars were total losses.
