Fire leaves 23 homeless in Maben mining town
A Tuesday blaze in Maben, starting likely from a defective flue, destroyed two five room frame houses and damaged two more. Twenty three residents were displaced as winds fanned the flames. No injuries were reported. Gulf Mining Co. owns the homes and damage was estimated at 5,000 dollars. Local volunteers, aided by Mullens firefighters, contained the blaze after mine officials praised the portable fire wagon. Victims were to be housed in the community.
