Topics cover identifying mental illness handling disturbed or violent persons depressed patients illnesses amnesia psychopathic personalities alcoholism drug addiction and the sex offender. Instructors for the course are to be announced.
A hot rod exhibition at the Ac me Super Market on Valley Drive Sunday drew a large crowd. Presented by the Raleigh County Coalfield Comets of Beckley and the Black Diamond Hot Rod Club of Pineville, the event featured cars from Raleigh Mercer McDowell Fayette and Wyoming counties.
John Turner of Charleston is free on 1000 bond after a preliminary hearing to the Federal Grand Jury on a charge of transporting moonshine. He was arraigned before U S Commissioner W A Riffe Beckley and jailed in Raleigh County. About 71 gallons were seized along with his automobile. the liquor was made in Raleigh County and moved into another county. Albert Lamar of Beckley was jailed later for driving with a revoked license.
Shady Spring High School senior John Scott, son of Mr and Mrs Howard Scott of Table Rock, is reported improving after sustaining second and third degree burns a week ago while attempting to intensify a blaze by throwing gasoline into a forge.
A Raleigh County jury failed to reach a verdict in the case of Wheeler after about two hours of deliberation. Trial opened before 11 a.m. and resumed after gas trouble and a car shove defense. The matter was rescheduled for the next term of the Raleigh County Criminal Court.
