Agriculturists from Raleigh Fayette Summers Mercer Wyoming and McDowell counties will attend a Portland Cement Association training meeting in Beckley on June 15. The program begins at 9 a.m. at the courthouse with PCA farm engineer M. D. Shanklin speaking on Placement of Quality Cement. An afternoon session at Blair Bennington farm Cool Ridge features a practical demonstration of pouring a concrete stock watering trough.

Roads Damaged By Flash Floods Hit Raleigh County Area
Torrential rains Sunday caused major road damage across Raleigh County and nearby areas. Traffic on U S Route 19 between McCreery and Layland slowed as slides of dirt rock and debris blocked the road, while a slide along the Chesapeake and Ohio tracks between Quinnimont and Glade halted Train 47. State crews were dispatched to clear slides and repair roads and bridges. In Herndon the downpour flooded lowlands and washed away small bridges, leaving State Route 10 at a standstill for hours before road crews began repairs.

Raleigh collision strands man in critical condition
A Beckley man, Bob H. Williams, was left in critical condition at Raleigh General Hospital after a 10:55 p.m. Saturday collision on S Fayette St involving his car and a truck. His passenger LeRoy Anderson is listed as fair. The truck driver Shirley Harvey and three passengers were released after hospital checks.

Sisters Accused Of Six Offenses In Beckley
Two Beckley sisters face multiple charges after arrest on Saturday night. Mrs Bruce Hogg 212 Wickham Ave charged with driving while intoxicated assaulting an officer resisting arrest and driving without an operator license. Mrs Thelma Wicker 107 Center St charged with drunkenness and resisting arrest. They posted 500 property bonds each and were jailed at Raleigh County Jail after resisting officers during attempted detention on Center Street. Chief Evan Hall denies ordering releases and cites intervention by Prosecuting Attorney Anthony Sparacino.

Infant Herron Dies in Raleigh Hospital
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Herron of Raleigh died shortly after birth at 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Surviving are a sister, Sandra Lee, and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Hill. The body will remain at Quesenberry and Webb Funeral Home during arrangements. Edward H. Logan of Beckley was fined $5 and costs for hazardous driving after arraignment before Magistrate T. N.
