Incomplete Funeral Services for John W. M. Smith

John William Marion Smith, 70, of Whipple, died Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. from complications of a long illness. Funeral services remain incomplete. He was a retired employee of New River Coal Co and a Baptist. Numerous school staff changes and resignations followed in districts including Ansted Collins Meadow Bridge Oak Hill and Fayetteville.

Graveside Rites Held For Infant Linda Braxton

Graveside services for Linda Braxton two week old daughter of Mr and Mrs James L Braxton were to be held at 3 p m today at Stone Cliff Cemetery with Rev Leon Sims officiating. The infant died at 1115 p m Monday at a Beckley hospital. Survived by parents and one sister Brenda at home. Collins Funeral Home Glen Jean in charge of arrangements.

John Steinland Dies of Stroke at 73 in Oak Hill

John Steinland 73 of Oak Hill died in Oak Hill Hospital at 10 a.m. Tuesday after a stroke. A retired miner and member of United Mine Workers Local 3949 at Minden, he was born June 23, 1883 in Lithuania. No survivors are listed. body at Tyree Funeral Home pending arrangements.

Instructors Train at Al Haddad Pool for Small Craft Program

The Boone County Red Cross program wraps a week of instructor classes at Al Haddad Recreation Pool Madison. The courses covered senior life saving and beginner boating with over a hundred enrolled. Instructors include Mrs Hall Miss Linda McNeely and Miss Patricia Shirkey from Madison who trained at Vanderbilt and Jackson. A drive to sell season tickets supports the Water Safety Program expenses with proceeds shared by pool management.

Mrs Bonnie Jarrell Initiated Into Whitesville Rebekah Lodge

Mrs Bonnie Jarrell of Dry Creek was initiated at Whitesville Rebekah Lodge in a Monday meeting led by vice grand Hazel Bailey. Officers for the next six months were nominated by the degree team headed by Mrs Mat Thompson. next nominations continue June 17. Tragic Drowning of Brumfield Child at Guandotte River

E Eugene Brumfield 12 of Huntington drowned in the Guandotte River Sunday at 2 pm and was recovered Tuesday morning. Funeral services set for Thursday at 11 am in Turkey Creek Baptist Church with burial in Wolf Pen family cemetery. he leaves parents Courtland and Grace Mullens Brumfield and siblings. In a separate item, Mr and Mrs Bobby Wallace of Coal Mountain welcomed a son born June 10 at Stevens Clinic Welch weighing nine pounds one and a half ounces.
