Progress on Beckley area integration shows mixed results
A Register survey finds varied responses from hotel and restaurant operators. Pagoda Motel owner McCollum says they serve all colors but control who enters. Honey in the Rock Motel shows no official policy until stockholders meet. Moon Glow Motel denies policy against Negroes yet will turn away undesirable white customers. Beckley Hotel reports three to four colored guests monthly. Trailway and President Hotels claim integration, with nuanced refusals for non-desirable guests.
