Reports by E S Humphrey of the subsistence gardening program note serious flea beetle outbreaks on potatoes and tomatoes across southern West Virginia with warming weather likely to spread northward by week’s end. Farmers are urged to inspect, spray or dust bean plants and nearby crops, using magnesium arsenate with hydrated lime or calcium arsenate with Bordeaux powder, covering both sides of leaves. Four page leaflets detailing control measures are available through county agents and farming associations.

In Stotesbury West Virginia on Wednesday night Pat Williams led a Christian Endeavor program. Claude Rider and Miss Mary Deck wed soon after the service. The bride daughter of Mr and Mrs S L Deck wore blue white crepe with white accessories. Mrs Rider serves as secretary of the Endeavor and of the Sunday school and is a Mark Twain High school graduate. Mr Rider works in Stotesbury and is president of the Endeavor. they plan to make their home in Sophia. After the ceremony Mrs I M Fisher hosted a party for the Endeavor with games and refreshments attended by many locals and visitors.
