Mulches Great Aid At Gardening Time
A gardening note advises using mulches to save time and protect soil. Suitable materials include peat moss, marsh hay, straw, and grass clippings with 3 inch depth for most mulches and at least 2 inches for peat moss. Mulching depletes soil nitrogen during decomposition, so apply extra nitrogen to plants. Mention of ground corn cobs as roses mulch, despite availability issues, and buckwheat hulls as rosary recommended mulch.
