Richard O'Regan reports from Budapest on Hungary's "new look" under communism. The upper and middle classes gain privileges while the average living standard rises 15 to 20 percent, yet remains below prewar levels. Western goods and culture fill cities, but political repression and shortages persist. Hungarians appear strained and wary, preferring more freedom from the regime.
