March on Logan Was Propaganda by Mine Workers
A state panel led by Major Thos. B. Davis found the United Mine Workers used propaganda to spark a Logan county armed march in September 1919. The commission blamed no armed guards by coal operators, noting payments to Logan County deputies via the Logan Coal Operators association. It concluded the miners were not unionized and would resist union efforts, while deeming reports of beatings unproven as a basis for broad condemnations of Logan county conditions.
