Lake Stephens sand washed into lake during storm

Raleigh County's Lake Stephens recreation complex faces problems from recent heavy rain as Ohio River sand washed into the lake. Superintendent Lawrence Berkel and crew pulled sand back to the beach and dug a ditch with an earth wall to prevent repeats. Swimmers were caught underpaying fees, prompting tighter checks and a storm fence. Plans include family memberships, a $5000 boating facility with seven docks, and improved launching pads for next season.
