Slate Mine Lift Offers Thrilling View Above New River
A writer samples a sky ride suspended by two three-eighths inch cables along the Sprague mine route near Beckley West Virginia. The 165 foot tail tower and 100 foot hinge tower span about a mile as a four person bucket ferries slate and bone from the mine tipple to a distant dump.

Richmond Dry Cleaner Moves to New Quarters on South Kanawha
The Richmond dry cleaning firm owned by Jess Richmond expands into a 5000 square foot plant on South Kanawha Street with 34 regular employees and a delivery fleet serving Beckley and Smokeless Coal areas. The property includes former Turner brothers garage space and adjoining lot recently purchased. A local aviation note describes Herber Sessler and Monroe Worthington piloting a Waco plane over Skelton field with a remark about a perfect three point landing. A humorous anecdote follows about Chester Cook delivering a newspaper subscription wrist watch lost in a river rescue. A Marsh Fork district jury issue ends in a hung jury after all jurors were related to plaintiff or defendant.
