All-Star Game Hinges on NL Pitchers Law and Ford
The National League and American League prepared for the 29th midsummer classic at Yankee Stadium amid heat concerns. Vernon Law and Whitey Ford were set to duel as NL skippers kept the same batting order with Mantle, Maris, Berra, and Skowron in the middle. Willie Mays headlines the lineup, after a standout Kansas City performance, with Banks and Crandall supporting in the outfield and behind the plate. The AL led the series 16-12, but NL has won eight of the last twelve meetings.

American League favors expansion but needs NL cooperation
NEW YORK AP The American League, openly backing expansion, said it cannot proceed with enlarging its eight team lineup without full National League consent.
