Six Cases Dismissed From Raleigh County Court Docket
The Raleigh County Circuit Court last week dismissed five suits from the docket and continued one case to the next term. Dismissals followed notices that matters were settled, including suits by M. J. Ferguson state tax commissioner for West Virginia against Robert Hairston and others, and by P. E. Rhodes against Virginia Burdette and associates. Mose Ramesh vs Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Co. was continued to the next term.

X-Ray Clinics Begin in Raleigh County
The Raleigh County Tuberculosis and Health Association announces free X-ray clinics starting today at Beckley Recreation Building. A mobile X-ray unit operates 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm Wednesday through Friday and 9 am to 12 noon Saturday, with a special night clinic 7 pm to 9 pm Thursday. The unit schedules include Rhodesl July 19–20 Sophia July 21 and Montcoal July 22–23.

Beckley Firemen May Attend West Virginia Fire School
Beckley City Council may authorize firemen to attend the 24th annual West Virginia State Fire School at Morgantown July 19 to 23. State Fire Marshal C A Raper says arson detection will be stressed and firemen will assume new duties. Arson investigations rose from 162 requests in 1951 to 218 in 1953, with 11, 12, and 0? convictions. A fire prevention bureau training plan and Beckley bureau setup were discussed with Planning Commission support.

Monroe Day planners meet at Oak Hill to finalize the second annual celebration on August 8 at Grand View State Park. Clay Brown leads the program committee and park attendance last year reached about 1,000 from across the area, the largest crowd of the year at the park.

Addition to Church Work Resumed for Adventist School
Construction resumed Monday on an extension to the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Jennings Street. It will serve a day school, Sabbath classes, and office space for the Health and Welfare Society. Pastor Rev. M. E. Fralick said the project should be finished in time for the fall opening of the day school, modeled after six other programs.

Pike Worker Back Injury After Turnpike Crash
James W. Beck 38 of 105 1 2 Stanhope Court Beckley sustained a back injury when his cement hauling truck overturned on the turnpike about one mile off Route 16 near MacArthur early this morning. He was taken to Veterans Administration Hospital by a Caffee Funeral Home ambulance for evaluation. The accident occurred around 6 30 a.m.

Fined for Speeding in U S Route 21 Incident
Robert H. Todd aged 54 of Graham was found guilty of speeding by Magistrate T. N. Thurman. He was fined $10 plus costs after state police arrested him for driving 70 mph in a 35 mph zone on U S Route 21.
