College funds shift funding away from capital projects
The revenue fund will not finance capital improvements this year as state colleges lose direct appropriation. Construction money comes from a new annual registration fee, with about two thirds of the $100 paid by students set aside. Totaling roughly $800,000 yearly, only Marshall College now keeps its tuition, used for a health and physical education building, with WVU following a similar setup directing funds to the Agriculture and Engineering School. Board members also seek salary raises of 15 percent for educators and administrators and 10 percent for others, plus 25 percent more for equipment and 15 percent for current expenses and repairs. At the meeting’s start, Lacy Rice of Martinsburg was chosen as the new president, succeeding James Ansel of Moorefield.
