Demonstrations Set On Pruning Christmas Trees

Demonstrations on pruning Christmas trees will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, sponsored by Rural Development Program with West Virginia University Extension Service and the Soil Conservation Service, per Assistant District Forester Francis Keiling. Scheduled sites include A. L. Moody Farm near Hilton Village, Ray Thompson Farm in Long Branch, W. M. Seilinger Farm in Edmond, and Harry Miller Farm in Beckwith with times from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Keiling stresses timing by species to ensure desirable shapes, noting unpruned stands produce few saleable trees while pruning increases marketable trees to 9 percent or more. Ward Ashford, Porter Hanna, and Richard Winston of SCS, along with John Flanagan, Rural Development agent, will join the demonstrations.
