UMW Group Accuses Hartley Of Causing Strife In Labor Debate

District 29 wage scale committee members in Beckley pass a resolution accusing Rep. Fred Hartley of deliberately causing national confusion and strife by backing the Taft-Hartley bill. They call for investigations into his finances and ties to manufacturers and various organizations. The measure targets Hartley while urging probes of his associations and intent.

Rainbow Girls To Use Legion Hall In Mount Hope

Rainbow Girls win permission from the American Legion to use a Legion hall room for meetings with access to equipment and lighting but no dances or public parties. Attendees included H. D. Gast and Mrs. L. D. Clark among others. Preparations for a visit from supreme deputy Mrs Olive Zimmer noted. a Rainbow Bible gift was presented by Mrs. L. D. Clark. Pineville and Nome Alaska report Barker family reunion set for Sunday July 13 near Tom Mountain Icy Welch Cape 506 miles north of Nome. Army Signal Corps men and Eskimo drivers plan a musical program and speeches. Organizers hope reindeer teams perform and travel to the United States for Christmas with Santa Claus.

Follow Up X Rays Requested in Raleigh County May X Rays

Mrs Edna Richmond County health nurse announced that residents who had X rays in May at the Memorial Building and who received a letter from the State Health Department should report to the County health offices as quickly as possible. Letters were sent where X rays were unclear or follow up was needed and recipients were urged to contact the health office. The mobile unit took X rays May 27 to 29 and reports have been mailed.

Wyoming County authorities report Slab Fork Creek pollution with dead fish found miles above Mullens. W M Rutherford, patrolling the stream, and Magistrate W R Haga described the pollution as likely from a strong acid, following earlier pollution discoveries in Barkers Creek and the Guyandotte River.

Wheat crop seen surpassing last month’s record

Wren Dies of Heart Ailment at 37

Beverly Tate Wren vice president and general manager of Consolidated Bus lines died yesterday at his Bluefield home from acute coronary thrombosis. He joined the company in 1934 at Beckley after working in Charleston for what is now the Atlantic Greyhound Corp. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Christ Episcopal Church Bluefield with burial in Bluefield Cemetery. The body is at Hairkins Funeral Home.
