MacArthur Yalta link framed in party mythmaking
The piece analyzes debates over Gen. MacArthur and the Yalta Agreement, arguing Taft supporters and Republicans mythologize MacArthur to cast Yalta in a negative light. It cites Forrestal diaries and pre Yalta cables showing MacArthur pressed for Soviet entry and Manchuria action, framing the conquest of Japan as costly yet deemed necessary by some military voices. The author cautions against mythmaking that inflates MacArthur’s stature beyond factual policy outcomes.
