Differences in Women’s Underwear Across Nations
Belgrade reports contrast Titoist and Khrushchev era products. Soviet women wear long nationalized panties in blue and purple, while Yugoslav shops offer a rainbow of styles and colors. Girdles and garter belts are common in Yugoslavia but scarce in Russia. Slips are brief, cotton, and functional in Russia, where nightgowns are rare. Yugoslavia lacks such limits, with evident bikinis and other items. An American quip notes Soviet women may have the best bras or chests.

Dr. Ford K. Edwards of the National Coal Association told the Interstate Commerce Commission that private enterprise should limit services to profitable market segments and pool trains between terminals to reduce passenger deficits. He warned major city terminals might disappear, with suburban setups handling fewer through trains and maintaining overhead costs. Edwards cited rising freight earnings but growing passenger losses, urging removal of Ex Parte 175 surcharges to help coal rail shipments and noting a mixed 1955 income outlook for major coalroads.
