Yanks Pin Downed by Fire Then Helicopters Strike Village
In a grim encounter near Tan An the 1st Battalion 7th Cavalry endured heavy machine gun and rifle fire as several soldiers fell. Helicopters arrived with rockets destroying the village and pinning down fleeing residents. Cavalrymen counted 50 bodies and packed suspects onto helicopters for questioning. The scene shifted to the night perimeter as food and ammo dropped in for the next day’s sweep. A young sergeant asked about casualties amid steaming ruins. Science Exchange report follows.
