Farm Market Trends From William P. Gruber UPI
Commodity exchanges push futures for diverse items but frozen eggs lead growth. Egg futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange rose to 141 000 contracts in 1961 from 3 000 in 1959, with hedging expanding as seasonal production creates surplus storage needs. Cattle futures softened with steers and cows down. hogs held steady to higher amid varied regional price shifts. Beef, lamb, and pork prices mostly declined in major markets as industry activity shifts.

Feed Ewes Well Before And After Weaning
West Virginia University Extension advises shepherds to keep ewes thrifty before lambing. Ben Wamsley Jr. recommends a grain mix plus high quality hay to support weight gains and reduce ketosis during the final month of pregnancy. After lambing, maintain the ration, increasing grain for nursing ewes, and divide flocks by lambing status. Ensure fresh water, salt mineral, and exercise for all ewes.
