A flash fire destroyed a rural Ashland home killing Edna 15 Ella 12 Jeannie 9 Alfred 4 Barbara 2 and Carolyn Tripp 2. Luther Tripp 35 Muriel Tripp 34 were severely burned. Rebecca 8 months burned, Stanley Hickley 20 also burned. Luther Jr 10 and Brynn Cox 24 survived. The parents attempted rescue and leaped from a second story porch into snow.

Women Nabbed In Illinois Beckleyans Jailed As Auto Thieves
Two Beckley women Cora Ayers 20 and Patricia Tapp 18 were arrested in Flora Illinois after a break in at Grady Whitlock Ford Inc and theft of two Ford automobiles. The two men involved fled in a Flora resident’s car and remain at large. About $1000 in tools were taken and a McGill car was found at the dealership.

Mrs Harris 51 Dies After Illness in Hinton
Mrs Mary V Harris aged 51 died at 11 50 a m today in a Hinton hospital after a six week illness. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage suffered about 9 p m Monday at her home near Jumping Branch. Born November 16 in Virginia she was a daughter of Mrs Bessie Kline Coffelt and the late Milton T Coffelt. She had lived in Hinton and Jumping Branch for 41 years and was a teacher in local public schools and wife of Rev Dwight E Harris.

Gunshot Victim Listed In Fair Condition
Thelma Mullins aged 19 shot herself in the right chest with a .22 pistol Monday. She was taken to Oak Hill Hospital and is listed in fair condition. Mullins, from Queen Shoals Clay County, was visiting at sister Mrs Boyd Minnix’s home when the incident occurred and had been under a doctor’s care.
