Wage Increases Approved for Weirton Steel Workers
Weirton Independent union president Larry Lafferty said the war labor board approved wage increases of 9 12 cents an hour for 90 skilled and export handlers and 4 cents an hour for 164 coke plant workers at Weirton Steel Co. The increases address intra plant inequities and are not the union’s general wage demand. The union seeks a $1 minimum and a 22 percent bonus over 78 cent base rate, still before the WLB.
