Robins Run Amok in Bay Area Food Frenzy
Oakland resident Earl Lopez reports about 3 000 robins roaming his lawn and street after feasting on overripe pyracantha berries. Similar flocks totaling about 12 000 were seen in Los Altos the day before, leaving branches sagging and rooftops covered as birds appeared intoxicated. Avian expert Alex Eisenberg notes berries can intoxicate robins and predicts more such sightings as pyracantha fruit ripens. Lopez calls it a mixed blessing, easing berry clutter but dirtying his car.
