Local Union Plans to Buy Food for Members

Covel Local Union 5811 of the United Mine Workers will begin tomorrow buying food for its members and families for two weeks. A $2,000 fund was set aside to provide aid via a coupon system, with a $25 maximum per miner family. The drive stops company credit for future orders at Covel and aims to assist families during hard times amid program details announced by President Elbert Roberts. Proceeds from a February 2 show at the elementary school will help fund the school’s payments and related activities.

Oak Hill Business and Professional Women plan to elect officers for the ensuing year at the March 13 meeting. Youth Admits B&E of Oak Hill High

Oak Hill police chief William Bellew said Dallas J Epperly 18 confessed Sunday night to breaking and entering the Oak Hill High School stock and supply room last week. About 73 dollars was reported taken. Epperly was taken to Newcastle Virginia yesterday by Newcastle authorities to answer charges of car theft after being arrested by state police Saturday night at Glen Jean.
