Local Union Plans to Buy Food for Members
Covel Local Union 5811 of the United Mine Workers will begin tomorrow buying food for its members and families for two weeks. A $2,000 fund was set aside to provide aid via a coupon system, with a $25 maximum per miner family. The drive stops company credit for future orders at Covel and aims to assist families during hard times amid program details announced by President Elbert Roberts. Proceeds from a February 2 show at the elementary school will help fund the school’s payments and related activities.
