Opening Testimony Implicates Four In Bluefield Bombing

Four health and physical education students at Bluefield State College were identified in opening testimony as present when a bomb damaged a dormitory building on November 21 1968. Witnesses Nathaniel Johnson Paul Lee Crockett and others testified they saw a bomb discussed but did not know who planted it. The trial continues with eight state witnesses called and no dates set for remaining defendants. The campus faced racial tensions, dormitories stayed closed, and classes resumed under security.

Deaf Mute Charged In Rape and Stabbing Incident

In MCVEIGH Kentucky a 20 year old deaf mute Roger Booth was charged with rape stabbing and armed robbery after attacking a high school girl in an outhouse near her home. The victim was found by a neighbor and treated at Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson in critical condition. The suspect is jailed in Pikeville awaiting arraignment with $bond set by officials.

A wounded whale shot for no reason in Long Beach Harbor was towed out to sea after a full day of effort by lifeguards and city officials. They feared it would die on the beach and planned disposal if it did not depart, finally succeeding on the sixth tow three miles offshore.
