Congolese former premier Patrice Lumumba and two fellow prisoners fled a Katanga Province jail near Elisabethville. The three had been held since January 19 after transfer from Thysville amid security fears. A Katanga communique offered a large reward for their capture and reported the escape was announced in Elisabethville this morning.
