Conner Free on Bond During 90 Day Appeal
Albert Raymond Conner is free under a 5000 dollar bond for 90 days to appeal a Mercer County Criminal Court verdict. Judge Morten F. Wagner sentenced Conner to an indeterminate term in the state penitentiary for voluntary manslaughter in the death of Canada A. Shrewsbury. The jury convicted him after a five day trial following an incident January 3, 1944 after a dance at Lessie's Tavern near Princeton. Shrewsbury's body was found near the Virginian Railroad overpass in Princeton. His death was attributed to shock and exposure by trial doctors. Mrs. Conner, who was pregnant, could not testify and deposition was read.
