Unemployment and Old Age Taxes Set by Social Security Act
Washington reports eight or more workers trigger a one percent unemployment tax in 1937 with a second one percent old age tax due in 1938. Both rise to three percent by 1949 and are paid to the state unemployment fund and the federal treasury. The plan covers about 22.9 million unemployed and 25.8 million for old age, varying by state laws.
