Shark attack wounds shake MacKay couple
In Mackay Australia Margaret Hobbs eighteen and Martin Steffens twenty four were attacked by a ten foot shark while waist deep in water about 22 feet from shore. Hobbs lost an arm and suffered severe leg and thigh injuries while Steffens fought the shark to protect her before a rescuer drove it away. Both were hospitalized. Hobbs asked nurses what happened and a nun described her fortitude as the pair had planned to become engaged soon.

ELKINS UPI Former Gov H G Kump age 84 was slated for exploratory surgery today after two weeks in hospital. A family spokesman said he has gall bladder illness and has previously suffered strokes in 1943 and 1953 but fully recovered.
