DETROIT Chrysler Corp pays 35 million dollars for Briggs Manufacturing seven plants devoted to auto body making and airplane parts. Briggs stockholders approved the sale by 1,347,932 to 10,757. Briggs retains its Beautyware division. Sale covers buildings, machinery and land. Briggs inventories for auto bodies and airplane parts valued around 40 million in 1952 will be purchased. Briggs employed about 30,000. Everett E. Lundberg urged approval, noting Chrysler aims to make all bodies itself and would otherwise lose a major customer. Chrysler will continue supplying Packard from Briggs plants until bodies can be sourced elsewhere.
