Men Reminded Of Contract By The Associated Press
Charleston local No 2336 United Steel Workers at the South Charleston Naval ordnance plant were reminded that their contract does not expire until January 4. Officials issued the statement to avoid misunderstandings after the war labor board denied retroactive settlements in new contracts. C I O President Philip Murray warned the action creates a grave situation as working pacts expire for about 350000 workers at midnight. Flu in the community is described as mild but epidemic with some pneumonia and one death. Navy fireman Curtis William Toombs Jr has been promoted to machinist mate second class and serves overseas in the Atlantic.
