West Virginia yearend laughs rely on noise and odd feats
In 1964 West Virginia offered quirky stories from marathon drummer Bob Quesnell to a river rescue with a stubborn swimmer in Huntington and a pigeon problem in Charleston. The 1900s era habits show a year of oddities, political quirks, and lighthearted misadventures across cities like Welch and Jane Lew.

Byrd urges expanded USDA aid for Brush Creek project
Senator Robert C. Byrd pressed for supplemental and fiscal 1966 funding to expand Water shed assistance through the Farmers Home Administration. He warned Princeton sponsors faced delays if funds remain limited and noted Brush Creek loan of 1 million plus nine other authorizations totaling over 4 million could exhaust next year’s funds. He urged funds at department or Budget Bureau levels and cited current loan demand and high applications.
