Death Legend of Piney River Rock Inscription
A 13 year old inscription on a large rock at Raleigh County's Piney River disposal plant reportedly marks the dying words of an 1812 era traveler named S Ferguson. County historian Judge W A Biffle notes the inscription may refer to Stephen Ferguson (1777–1853) whose burial along Piney is unconfirmed, suggesting the carving could be a camp inscription by a trapper or hunter.
