State police reported no weather related wrecks and Turnpike maintenance found roads in good shape. Low temperatures fell to 19 22 degrees. Raleigh County Memorial Airport flights were affected with the 8 22 flight canceled.

New York UPI reports August J Lippi 61 president of United Mine Workers District 1 and former First National Bank Exeter Pa director was arrested Thursday night as he tried to board a plane for Chile FBI said Lippi a defendant in five federal cases was with his wife Lena and relatives. He was taken to the U S House of Detention while his companions were allowed to board. He sought a new trial after a corporate tax evasion conviction and had appealed the April ruling. Lippi born July 8 1900 in Florence Italy holds derivative citizenship via his father’s naturalization.

Two More Killed On State Roads
Two more southern West Virginia highway deaths raise the 1962 road toll to 410. Arnold Creech Jr., 16, died en route to hospital after a car with three St. Albans youths left a road and plunged into an icy creek. Driver Charles Lewis, 18, and Roger Taylor, 18, were treated for exposure. Royal Searls, 35, of near Hurricane, and Elijah Chapman, 21, were struck on W V 3 between Hurricane and Hamlin. Chapman hospitalized with multiple injuries while Searls’ companion escaped. Police said the victims watched a wrecker recover their own car from a ditch when struck.
