W A Tony Boyle announced his resignation as president of the United Mine Workers after a closely watched election a federal court ordered. The board granted Boyle a 50 000 annual retirement pension equal to his full salary amid plans to strip it by Miller if possible. Final unofficial results gave Miller 70372 votes to Boyle 56334 in the Labor Department supervised election held after 1969 irregularities and the Yablonski family killings.
