Makarios elected Cyprus president in independence vote

Prosecution Witnesses Set for Philippi Mine Case

State briefs report more prosecution witnesses are to testify today at Philippi in the Harry Myers trial on charges connected to violence at non union mines. Myers 50 a United Mine Workers organizer from Morgantown is among 11 indicted after a year of dynamitings shootings and other outbreaks. Frederick D. Ehle received a two year suspended sentence in U S District Court Charleston for providing false information to a federal agency. The Paul Hawkish trial for a 3000 robbery of the Wheeling Country Club ended with a directed verdict of innocence after a night watchman changed his story indicating Hawkish was not the robber.
