Oak Hill Cleveland Thompson of Page was fined 50 dollars by Police Judge E N Goode after a Saturday night arrest by city police on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Shoppers in Charleston Thursday included Mrs. Beulah Warren of Kilsyth Mrs. Margaret Beirne of Bradley and Mrs. Charles Puckett of Kilsyth as they browsed holiday goods in the city.
The Marsh Fork High School Glee Club presents The Christmas Story on Wednesday December 17 with Miss Edna Deitz and Mrs. Doris Webb directing. Cast includes Bill Sharpe Nina Stamper Charles Seylards and Carleton Acord among others with 40-voice Angel Chorus and Betty Thompson and Sue Clay as soloists. Matinee and evening shows announced with no admission.
Baileysville First Baptist Church will be awarded the Emblem of Achievement and the A Banner during Sunday morning services. Rev Wayne Rollins said Dr Asa B Harris will present the honors on behalf of the American Baptist Convention. The award honors the church’s excellence in the Sunday church school under the Achievement Plan’s ten goals.

Mrs Lucy Smith of McComas died at 10 30 a m Tuesday in a Welch hospital from cerebral hemorrhage Funeral services will be at Crumpler Methodist Church with Rev Paul Hall and burial in Windmill Gap family cemetery Born June 18 1886 in Corbin Kentucky she was daughter of the late Mr and Mrs A T Stewart She was widow of M S Wyrick later married to B T Smith and survived by children Henry Wyrick Pemberton Thurman Wyrick Luther Wyrick and Nadie Ward plus siblings John Proffitt Mrs Lydia Day A C Proffitt and Mrs Ida Phelps Resided in McComas two years after living in Crumpler 20 years
A Monroe County recount gives Sherman H Ballard 3209 votes to 3200 for Democrat T G Matney. The canvass confirms Ballard wins the seat by two votes, returning him to the House for 1951 with 33 Republicans to 67 Democrats. Ballard previously served in 1941 1943 1947 and 1949.

Richard Higgins 50 of Glen Rogers died from a gunshot wound early Sunday. Acree Hayes, Glen Rogers tavern keeper, is charged with Higgins murder and wounded Walter Brown, and the Wyoming County Grand Jury will act. Services Sunday at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church Glen Rogers with Rev C H Edwards officiating. Burial in Greenwood Memorial Park. Higgins survived by wife Mary and a stepson Ray Gene Guerrant plus three brothers Daniel James Mack and a sister Geneva Burnett. Higgins home at Glen Rogers at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Henry Grady Keel a 49 year old migrant of Clintwood Virginia and husband of former Pineville resident Gar netta Cline Keel died Monday night in his home when he apparently tried to move an electric heater while bathing His sister in law Mrs James E Stone of Pineville reported the incident He worked for Olga Coal company about 25 years The body lies at Douglas Mortuary Welch with funeral arrangements pending Survivors include his daughter Cathy and a sister
Four county officials in Wyoming post bonds with court approval. Bryant Cecil, deputy sheriff designate, posts 5000 dollars with National Surety Corp. Helen Shufflebarger, county court clerk, posts 3000 dollars. Justices of the peace W P Wilson and William R Haga post 52000 bonds each with Fidelity and Casualty Co. Notary James R Mink approved with 500 dollar bond. Guardians, administratrices, and estates also post bonds varying from 100 to 2000 dollars as final and annual settlements are approved by the county court.
Mrs. Ella Mae Humphrey 36 of Long Branch died at 1:45 am Tuesday after a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral at Long Branch Methodist Church with Rev. Mont Carr. Burial in Humphrey Cemetery Willis Branch. Survived by husband Dan Humphrey mother Zettie Williams Charleston three brothers six sisters four children. Body moved to Tyree Funeral Home Oak Hill.
Mrs. Elvira Thomas Akers mother of Walter H. and R. D. Akers of Mullens died Monday after two months bedfast. Funeral services were to be held at Mt. Pleasant Church near Christiansburg with burial in the church cemetery. She died at a daughter’s Salem Virginia home. Native of Bedford Virginia she would have turned 87 on December 29. Survivors include four other sons thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Acree Hayes a 37 year old Glen Rogers tavern operator is ordered held for the Wyoming County grand jury on a murder charge in the fatal shooting of Richard Higgins age 50. Hayes waived preliminary hearing yesterday before Magistrate W Preston Wilson.
Montgomery WV Tech presents the Symphonic Band of 40 students directed by Myllan Smyers at 8:30 tonight in the college gymnasium. The program includes nine selections and features the Swingsters dance orchestra performing Body and Soul Stars Fell on Alabama and Artistry in Jumps.
