Baileysville First Baptist Church will be awarded the Emblem of Achievement and the A Banner during Sunday morning services. Funeral rites set for Richard Higgins in Glen Rogers

Richard Higgins 50 of Glen Rogers died from a gunshot wound early Sunday. Mother of Mullens Men Dies in Virginia

Mrs. Elvira Thomas Akers mother of Walter H. and R. D. Akers of Mullens died Monday after two months bedfast. Funeral services were to be held at Mt. Pleasant Church near Christiansburg with burial in the church cemetery. She died at a daughter’s Salem Virginia home. Native of Bedford Virginia she would have turned 87 on December 29. Survivors include four other sons thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
