State May Take Over Wild Lands In New Program
The report from the state conservation committee proposes the legislature take over tax‑sale wild lands for a statewide reforestation program. It calls for a permanent conservation commission, headed by a forestry expert, to manage forests and establish state parks such as Hawk's Nest for tourism. Nat T. Frame of West Virginia University notes timber profits could reward the state within a decade, with hard woods flourishing in 40 years and thousands of acres used as game reserves and parklands under state control.
