Nevada to recognize Paret as dual boxing champion
Las Vegas United Press International reports that Benny Kid Paret could become the first two crown holder since 1938 if he defeats Gene Fullmer in Saturday's Las Vegas title fight. The Nevada State Athletic Commission voted to recognize Paret as both welterweight and middleweight champion, despite the NBA not backing a second crown. Fullmer will weigh around 159 pounds, Paret about 156 1/2, with the bout not for Paret's welterweight title but to test cross-division competition.

Philadelphia heavyweight Sonny Liston said he is puzzled by alleged obstacles to a title shot and wants Cus D'Amato, manager of Floyd Patterson, to explain them. Liston plans a news conference to let D'Amato state the hurdles publicly after meeting arranged by attorney Mort Witkin.
