The Veterans Administration announces that about 20 widows of veterans and 1,400 children will study overseas this year under a new GI Bill provision. The law expands education benefits for Vietnam veterans and removes restrictions on eligible programs. Eligible widows and children may pursue foreign higher education, finish high school, or take correspondence courses without leaving home. The VA notes roughly 7,000 women and 56,000 children may qualify. Monthly grants for full-time study rise to 200 dollars. part-time students receive quarterly lump sums. For the first time, on-the-job training is included for wives, widows, and children, with possibilities in allied health, hospitality, and skilled trades. Tutoring benefits are extended to these dependents, up to 300 dollars per month. Further planning help is available through VA Regional Offices in all states and Puerto Rico.
