Microelectronics fuels today space and medical care advances
Microelectronics shrink bulky devices into pinhead sizes enabling wireless patient monitoring systems at Mass General and other hospitals. A pain box in a pajama pocket helps cancer patients avoid drugs, while pacemakers and nurse consoles relay vital signs to central displays. NASA papers highlight hospital uses, with devices signaling for changes in blood pressure temperature or respiration and aiding diagnoses during anesthesia and surgery.
