Peruvian use of gold and silver beyond monetary value
The pre Conquest Peruvians valued gold and silver for beauty rather than money. They used the metals as inner temple wall coverings and as material for statuary. The custom of throwing rice at newly married couples stems from ancient Hindu and Chinese religious practices.
