Wounded Marine Kills Eight Japs at Guadalcanal
Private George Louis Turzai of Gary Indiana, age 18, earned credit for killing at least eight Japanese in action on Guadalcanal including six by rifle fire and two by bayonet. Navy reports say he also helped wipe out four enemy machine gun nests during the Henderson Field assault before a bullet struck him in the neck, he slipped into a fox hole and fell. He is hospitalized at Great Lakes.

Engineer Gets Jail Sentence In Maryland Wreck
Raymond Rufus McClelland, a 59 year old engineer with 41 years at Baltimore and Ohio, was sentenced in Montgomery county circuit court to 2 1 2 years in Jessup for manslaughter after a Detroit to Washington express crash in fog on Sept 24. The wreck killed at least 14 and involved three trains. The motion for a new trial was denied.
